The bear as a symbol in Bulgarian folklore is one of an ambivalent nature. According to some traditional beliefs, the bear has the ability to heal and protect from disease, as well as bring fertility. At the same time however, the bear, whose patron is St. Andrew, is also the symbol of the forces of nature, the power of the uncomprehensible, the unpredictable, the primitive, the inclination towards violence that often lurks within our shadow self. Let the mark of the bear on this hunting knife remind its owner of the duality of nature and her ability to give but also take one's life away.
The knife is hand crafted in Karlovo by the master craftsmen Hristo Nedelev and Pavel Nedelev, members of the Chamber of masters of traditional crafts. Hristo and Pavel frequently take part in traditional knife fairs across the country. In 2013 Hristo and Pavel participated in a two series documentary feature on TV+ that was dedicated on the traditions of Bulgarian knife making throughout the centuries. The engravement on the blade is made with knife burins. The bear head on the handle can be made of either brass (default), silver or gold. The knife comes with a leather sheath and a certificate of authenticity, signed by the craftsman.
